Physician Search
How to Search For a Family Physician Accepting New Patients
Step 1:
To search for a family physician accepting new patients, select a community from the pull down menu (above). Use the slider bar to move up and down the list.
The directory lists physicians by the community in which they practice.
Make sure you search neighbouring communities. If you are looking for a physician in St. John’s, for example, remember there are 12 separate communities that make up the metropolitan area. The directory lists each community separately.
The 12 communities in the St. John’s metro area are:
• St. John’s
• Mount Pearl
• Conception Bay South
• Paradise
• Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s
• Torbay
• Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove
• Pouch Cove
• Flatrock
• Bay Bulls
• Witless Bay
• Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove
• Bauline
Step 2:
Click on the community of your choice.
If you do not select a community, the directory will display a list in alphabetical order of all family physicians in the province who are accepting new patients. You can scroll through the list using the arrow keys displayed on the screen.
On each search screen, the last sentence shows the date of the most recent directory update.
Step 3:
Click on the physician’s name to get his or her practice address and other contact information. In some cases, there may be only one physician in that community who is accepting new patients. In others, there may be up to nine or 10 names.
If you want to go back to the original search screen at any point in the process, just click on “Back to Search Page” button.
Step 4:
The physician information screen will also show the degree or degrees the physician holds, where he or she completed medical school, graduation year from medical school and the physician’s license number.
Note: The directory lists all physicians in that community who:
a. told the College they are accepting new patients and,
b. agreed to have their information listed in the directory.
The College updates the directory daily.
While the College makes every reasonable effort to ensure this information is up-to-date, physicians are responsible for informing the College when there is a change in their practice information.
