Orientation Information

Two guides are now available to physicians entering practice for the first time in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Physician Orientation Guide is produced by Practice NL, the province’s physician and nurse recruitment organization.  It includes an overview of the health care system in the province and chapters on the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association and the four regional, integrated health authorities in the province.

An Orientation Guide for New Physicians is produced by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is designed as a quick reference on topics physicians will encounter in day-to-day practice. 

Both guides have short overviews on each topic supplemented by active links to more information. The links are indicated by light blue lettering or by a symbol in front of a document title in a bullet list. URLS are also included for each link for those who print a hard copy of the guide.

Physicians applying for licensure in Newfoundland and Labrador should download the guide as early as possible in the application process so that they may familiarize themselves with the practice of medicine in the province.

Physicians already in practice in Newfoundland and Labrador will also find the guides handy sources of reference information.
