The practice of medicine in Canada is regulated by a medical licensing authority for each province or territory. In Newfoundland and Labrador, one of the responsibilities of regulation undertaken by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador is to license eligible physicians, including graduates of medical schools outside Canada to practice medicine or engage in medical training. The process and requirements for the licensing of International Medical Graduates is the same as is used for all physicians seeking to practice medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador. Physicians interested in obtaining a licence to practice medicine should consult the Licensing and Registration section of our website.
The following flow diagrams show the eligibility requirements for each type of licence.
