IMG Communications is a series of three modules developed by Professional Development and Conferencing Services of the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University to assist international medical graduates as they make the transition to practicing in Canada.
There is no registration fee for this program.
Doctors will need to register with Memorial's MDcme.ca website and obtain a username and password in order to complete the modules: create an account
Module 1: Patient-Centred Interview
Patient-centred care focuses on the person as opposed to the disease. A disease is what many people may have in common, but illness is an experience that is different for each person. This module will introduce the art of patient-centred interviewing through didactic content, video clips, and reflection.
Module 2: Cultural Differences
The goal of this module is to familiarize international medical graduates with some key cultural differences in Canada that may create barriers to effective doctor-patient communication.
The course includes strategies to approach sensitive issues and discuss treatment options, as well as recognition of recognize cultural differences in non-verbal communications.
Module 3: Understanding Relationships
Relationships are a key component of effective care. This module will discuss professionalism and communication among members of the health care team. It will also cover relationship problems such as interpersonal conflict and boundaries.
